Herman Nagel

Herman Nagel, 78, Mandan, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Edgewood Care Center in Mandan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan with Fr. Mark Aune officiating. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23 from 2-4 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Parish Vigil at 4:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.

Herman M. Nagel was born September 5, 1944, at Raleigh, ND, to Carl and Vera (Blotsky) Nagel.  He was raised and educated in Mandan, ND.  Following high school, Herman worked as a custodian at Mandan Senior and Junior High School, each for six years, at the Holiday Inn for twelve years, and from 1988 until 1999 for Capital Janitorial Service.  Herman worked at Hardee’s in Mandan for a number of years,

Herman was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan and the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed biking, fishing, taking in movies, gardening, and visiting with people.  He loved to watch the local car races and bull riding and attended many Mandan community events, as well as being a valued customer at a number of local businesses. His good humor, light nature and habitual pleasantness resulted in many lasting friendships.  He was a good friend to all, perhaps due to his belief that all humans should be treated with dignity.  He had many, many dear friends and great neighbors who made sure his life was good and added to his happiness.

He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his surviving family, his sister, Deborah (Marty) Oexner, Columbia, IL; brother, Norman (Sara) Nagel, North Branch, MN; niece and nephew, Lisa Gmys and Michael Pierce; two great nieces, Heather Gmys and Gracie Pierce; and one great nephew, Brennan Pierce.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vera Nagel.
