Gregg Jacobson, 61, of Fargo, formerly of Hettinger, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Fargo.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan. Interment with military honors will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born on March 16, 1963, Gregg was raised and educated in Hettinger. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, he was posted at Fort Richie and then served in Central America, then Alaska. Following his honorable discharge, Gregg was a national guard recruiter in Grand Forks and Minot.
On June 6, 1987, he married Lisa Zimmerman, and together they had two sons, Ryan and Jerad. The family moved to Lemmon, SD, in 1992 and helped manage the family car dealership with his father-in-law Roland Zimmerman. In 2002 Lisa and Gregg became the owners of the dealership after the passing of Roland. While living in Lemmon, Gregg was a Cub Scout Master, an active member of the Fire Department and American Legion as well as served on the local golf course board.
In 2004, he and Lisa returned to Hettinger, where they took over the family business, owning and operating RZ Motors. Gregg and his sons ran the business together until 2019, with Ryan and Jerad continuing operations until 2021. Throughout his life, he had a gift for coaching basketball, mentoring his sons and their teams, and from 2004 – 2009 he helped to shape the culture of the community’s involvement of the girls’ basketball program in Hettinger. Gregg was a very dynamic member of any community he lived from his generosity of his time through volunteerism to donation after donation given to programs in the Hettinger community.
Lisa and Gregg later divorced, and he eventually found his soulmate in Suzie Xiong. After dating for six years, they married in 2016. Gregg loved Suzie more than anything and cherished their life together.
The couple embarked on many adventures together, including mission trips and building churches in Thailand.
Gregg enjoyed Vikings Football, golf and hunting with his boys.
Gregg was a true leader, remembered for his bravery, selflessness, and generosity. His impact on his family and community will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his loving wife, Suzie of Hettinger; his sons, Ryan and his daughter, Evelyn, and Jerad (Katie) Jacobson; his mother, Bonnie Jacobson; his siblings, Sandy Jacobson and Rick (Julie) Jacobson; and his stepchildren, Denise, Dianne, JoAnna, Kimberly, Anthony, and Richard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Jacobson.
Memorials in Greggs name are suggested and will be used to memorialize Gregg’s memory in his community.
