George Gross

George Gross, 83, Mandan, died February 2, 2015 at Elgin Memorial Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Inurnment will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40..

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

George was born January 29, 1932 in Shields, ND to Joseph and Susanna (Harsche) Gross. He was raised and educated in Shields, entered the Army and served from November 4, 1953 to November 2, 1956. George was united in marriage to Dora Schoenberg on June 24, 1961. From that marriage, Bryan and Bruce were born.

George proudly sold cars for 35 years at the local Ford dealerships and worked on the principle of honestly. He ranched 2 miles north of Shields until 2006, until he retired. George raised cattle and loved working with horses. He also enjoyed butchering and making sausage at the ranch. His specialty was pitch fork fondues, at a family reunion; he cooked for over 800 people at that event. George and Dora loved dancing together. George was respected and loved by all those whose lives he touched. This special man will be dearly missed and will always be remembered for his loving devotion to family, friends, and community.

George will be deeply missed by his sons, Bryan and Bruce (Juana), both of Mandan; two sisters, Barb Turgeon, Mandan and Susan Jueth, Bismarck; one brother Al Gross, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Eva Glasser Gross; many special nephews, nieces, and cousins.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Dora; parents; three brothers, Joseph Gross, John (Dolores) and Engelbert (Sabina) Gross; five sisters, Helen (William) McNamee, Marie (Anton) Kraft, Ann (Anton) Silbernagel, Lillian (Casper) Kraft, Frances (Gordon) Haugen, and Kathy (Gerald) Duma; brother-in-laws, Louis Turgeon, Lee Jueth; Sister-in-law Irene Gross.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, may be given to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
