Frances Stegmiller, 90, Bismarck, passed away January 19, 2018 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Flasher, ND.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Frances was born April 23, 1927 in Fallon, ND, the daughter of Mike Scholl and Mary Erhardt. She was raised and educated in Fallon, ND, then graduating high school at Mandan Senior High. Frances married Manuel Stegmiller on May 28, 1946 in Fallon, ND. Together they lived in Flasher then moved to Mandan.
Frances taught school in a one room country school house. After she married Manuel they farmed for 40 years in the Flasher area. She was a 4-H leader. Frances was an accomplished seamstress, including sewing wedding gowns. She made beautiful quilts and braided wool rugs. She cooked at the Flasher School and the Flasher Senior Center. Frances was a vibrant wife, mother, and grandmother with a wonderful personality, full of laughter and the joy of life and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Ray) Fleck, Elaine Riehl (Glenn Dittus), Alice (Marlo) Anderson, and son-in-law, Larry Morgen, all of Mandan; sons, Gary (Donna K.), Bismarck, Steve (Barb), Bob (Terri), all of Mandan; daughter-in-law, Lavonne Stegmiller, Flasher; sister, Tillie (Ernie) Wolf, Portland, OR; brother-in-law, Harry Steckler, Sun City, AZ; sisters-in-law, Delores Schmidt, Yuma, AZ, Jackie Schmidt, Portland, OR; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and special family friends, Laverne Seehafer and Mary Ann Meyer.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Stegmiller on June 30, 2011; parents; step-father, Matt G. Schmidt; daughter, Peggy Morgen; son, Mike; sisters, Rita, Mary (Bob Lundberg) (Bill Jarvi); brothers, Don, Ed; grandson, Brian Fleck and special friend, Erin Seehafer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Josephs Building Fund or Flasher Community Scholarship Program.
