Florence, born August 29, 1927, to Art and Rosalie (Kruckenberg) Birkholz in Krem, North Dakota, was the oldest of 12, four girls and eight boys. She was educated in Hazen, and later lived and worked in Mandan where she married the love of her life, William Bullinger on March 1, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mandan. They were blessed with 6 children, 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren who were her greatest joy. Florence and Bill loved attending every school, sporting, and musical event they could.
After over 30 years working for St. Alexius Hospital as an Anesthesia Aide, Florence retired and spent several years working parttime as a hostess for Mandan McDonalds, lovingly referred to as “McFlo”, and for over 5 years she cared for two of her grandchildren, Taylor and Kaytlyn, while their parents worked, and until they were old enough to go to school.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a friend to all. Her love of God was reflected by the way she lived her modest life in simplicity, compassion, generosity, and love for all. She will always be remembered for her gift of hospitality, cooking, and baking, lovingly for friends and family from near and far away. Her kitchen was always open where there was friendly conversation and an understanding ear.
Florence will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children: Charles (Lucinda) Bullinger, Bismarck; Harlan (Cheryl) Bullinger, Grand Junction, Co; Kenan Bullinger, Bismarck; Karla (Thomas) Hellman, Mandan; Kimberly (David) Schulz, Mandan; seven grandchildren: Jason (Kathy) Bullinger, Colorado; Angela (Jesse) Brant, Colorado; Jana (David) Wisthoff, Bismarck; Leah (Chris) Jahraus, Colorado; Bethany Bullinger, Colorado; Taylor (Atlanta) Hellman, Mandan; Kaytlyn (Brett) Patzell, Bismarck; and 14 great-grandchildren: Tate Bullinger; Quinn, Henry, Owen, Sam, and Elliott Brant; Lucy, Charlie, James, and Mark Wisthoff; Lennox Hellman; Evelyn Patzell; Beckett and Harlow Jahraus.
Two brothers: Gerry (J.J.) Birkholz, Nevada; and Jim (Joan) Birkholz, Arizona; and four sisters-in-law: Marilyn Birkholz, Fargo; and Kathy Birkholz, Bismarck; Diane Birkholz, Bismarck; Mary Bullinger, Bismarck; daughter-in-law: Brenda Bullinger, Mandan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, their son, Mark, her parents, and 6 brothers, and 3 sisters.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Society on Sunset; they loved her and she loved them.
