Fern Froelich, 97, of Mandan, passed away December 29, 2024 at Miller Pointe in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan. Burial will follow in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. at Weigel Funeral Home, 309 4th Ave NW, Mandan with recitation of the rosary and prayer service beginning at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will be served at Spirit of Life following the burial, all are invited.
Fern was born April 28, 1927 to Rose (Wetsch) and Roy George at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. She became the beautiful wife to Jake Froelich on July 15, 1946 . Together they made their home in Solen where they raised their three children: Larry, Karen and Mark.
Fern was a loving mom, she dedicated her time to the kids and chose to be a stay at home mom. In 1972 she started volunteering at the Catholic School and after it closed, the Solen Cannon Ball Public School hired her as a teacher’s aide, where she worked more than 30 years. After retiring she began helping her son Larry at his bar in Solen.
After Larry passed away she moved in with her daughter Karen until Fern suffered a stroke then lived at the Terrace Assisted Living for 2 years, until recently being admitted to the hospital and moving to Miller Pointe, where she received hospice care.
Fern enjoyed her family, friends, playing bingo, going to the casino, shopping, painting and having her shots of red-eye with Carlene, Karen and Kathy.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mike) Riedinger; son, Mark (Carol) Froelich; daughter-in-law Darlene Froelich; grandchildren: Corey (Kandas) Riedinger, Travis Reidinger, Brandon (Kim) Riedinger, Sonya (Cody) Weinberger, Kendra (Jeremy) McLeod; great-grandchildren: Tiana, Brielle, Liam, Maverick, Kemper Riedinger; CL and Sydney Weinberger, Huxley and Hayes McLeod; sisters-in-law, Diane and Lena George; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; son, Larry and her parents: Roy and Rose; sister, Evelyn (Al) Glatt; brothers: Al, Frank, Jim (Bea), Rudy (Helen) and Arnold (Karen); in-laws: Mike and Margaret; Pete (Maggie) Froelich, Madeline Foelich, Betty Froelich, Eve (Wally) Hagstrom, Rosemary (Chris) Boe, Beatrice (Jim) George and Leo Froelich.
The family of Fern would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at the Terrace, the 4 North Sanford nurses and Miller Pointe for their care given to Fern.
