Evelyn was born on November 26, 1921 to Anton and Inga (Moe) Glunberg. She was raised and educated in Kloten, ND, graduating from Kloten High School. She later went on to graduate from business school.
How do you condense 96 years on one page? “You don’t”, it is telling a part of a life story. Evelyn lived a full life. At age 18, Evelyn moved to Nebraska, living in Lincoln and Omaha. With World War II beginning she moved to Tacoma, Washington to work for a ship building plant doing payroll. After the war she worked returning belongings to the Japanese who had been in internment camps. She loved Tacoma, but her mom called and said it was time to come home.
In Grand Forks, ND she worked at the Grand Forks Herald and met her future husband, Bill, on a blind date. Their children, Billy and Claire were born in Grand Forks. In 1953 they moved to McVille, ND where they lived for 12 years. In 1965 they moved to Cooperstown, ND. After the tragic loss of their son, Billy, they moved to Fargo, ND. Evelyn loved to dance and did so whenever she had the opportunity. Evelyn lived in Fargo for 42 years, retiring at age 72 from the Ethan Allen store.
She was a woman of faith and her dedication was displayed in her involvement with Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. They also found time to relax at the Lake Ashtabula cabin. At the age of 80, she took a trip to Hawaii which was filled with fun and appreciation. Family was always her pride and joy. Six years ago she moved to the Bismarck-Mandan area to be by her daughter. 96 years is a long time and Evelyn made the best of those years and lived those years with style.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her daughter, Claire (Skip) Baron; grandchildren,
Kelly Baron and Casey (Amber) Baron; and her great-grandchildren, Kaden, Paxton, and Kezia.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, W.H.M “Bill” Lyche; son, William “Billy”; her sisters, Amy and Hjordis; and her brother, Oscar Glunberg.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Ajka, Rahaj, and Nancy for their care of Mom at Sunset Continuing Care.
