Eugene (Gene) Pfleger, 56, Bismarck, died December 11, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Gene was born October 22, 1959 to Pete and Delora (Scheerle) Pfleger in Solen, ND. Growing up on the family farm he learned to love farming, the outdoors, and how to fix just about anything. He especially loved branding time when family and friends gathered for hard work, hard playing, and rocky mountain oysters. Gene was happiest being in on the action and cooking for others.

Graduating from Solen High School in 1978, he moved to the Bismarck/Mandan area. With skills he learned from his dad and gained experience, Eugene became a self-employed carpenter whose skillful wood trimming and finish work are in homes and businesses throughout the state. His wood and leather crafting are cherished by the family. He was always available to help others with projects, go fishing, or just shoot the breeze.

A major health crisis in 2013 forced Gene to slow down and he was able to focus his energy on family and the things he enjoyed. Family became first and phone call to others became more frequent. He would call back if he forgot to end with “love you.”

On a day with beautiful snowfall, Eugene stepped outside to enjoy the nature he loved. These became his first steps on his journey to heaven where he is reunited with his father Pete, mother Delora, daughter Megan, and other family members including cousins, Charlene and Shawn. After the heavenly reunion hugs the card games, dice playing, joke telling, and cutting loose will commence.

He prayed for family unity and will be smiling at family gatherings to share memories of his life. Knowing those left behind are stunned and saddened, we can almost hear him trying to comfort us by saying, “I love you all dearly but don’t shed a tear. I’m spending Christmas with Jesus this year.” Later!

Happy to have shared his too brief time here are his partner of 26 years, Judy Bauer; daughters, Liza (Thomas Johnson) Pfleger, Jamestown, Brandy Pfleger, Wilton, Melanie (fiancée, Wade Zeller) Bauer, Bismarck, Marissa (John) Berndt, Beulah; brothers, Greg (Donna), Bismarck, Dean (Kathy), Bismarck, Terry (Kim), Bismarck; 6 grandchildren, Desmond, Victoria, Destinie, Treyvon, Wesley, Marlene; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
