Esther was born on December 16, 1956, to Joseph and Janice (Wolf) Vogel in Mandan, ND. She was raised on the Vogel Ranch. After her parents' death, Esther took over management of the ranch while continuing to work at the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) for more than 36 years.
Esther, a senior Civil Engineer, started in the Design Division of the NDDOT. Esther was one of the first women engineers to work for NDDOT. She applied many talents and skills in her career to resolve myriad permitting and drainage issues. Esther was also instrumental in developing Stream Crossing Standards improving NDDOT's handling of water statewide. Colleagues note that she was considerate, conscientious, and diligent.
Esther also served on the Morton County Planning and Zoning Commission. She prided herself in being the "voice of Morton County farmers and ranchers." As a landowner herself, Esther had an astute understanding of their concerns and challenges. Currently she was serving as Vice-Chair.
Esther enjoyed the outdoors and working around the ranch. She relished working in the shop, fixing fences, mowing, and "getting her hands dirty." Fantasy football was her winter hobby. Although only a "Super Bowl" winner once (or maybe twice), she always looked forward to the football season. One of her favorite past-times was teaching Leo, her beloved dog, new tricks. Finally, Esther enjoyed many years of traveling with her family and was always ready for an adventure.
Esther will be deeply missed by her sons, Thomas Ingalls, Washington, DC, and Matthew Ingalls, Fargo, ND; sister, Mavis (George) Wall, Novato, CA and former spouse, Lee Ingalls.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joseph Vogel, Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to a charity of the donor's choice.
