Ernest Boehm

Ernest Boehm, 75, of Mandan, died peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. He was surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Josh Waltz as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Ernie was born in Mandan on February 4, 1946 to Matt and Emma (Barth) Boehm. He was raised on their farm in Mandan. On October 26, 1968 he married Joan (Loeb) Boehm. His pride and joys were his family, ten children, and nineteen grandchildren. Ernie loved children and was never without candy or a treat to share. He also loved farming the land and all of nature’s beautiful gifts.

Ernie will be remembered for his outgoing personality and generous nature. He loved visiting with friends and playing cards, especially pinochle, and loved hosting large tournaments and hosting family for large holiday celebrations. He enjoyed making his own sausage and eating an array of German foods. He was a good dancer who would never turn down dancing to a polka song. Through his life, Ernie had a passion for farming, tractors, and gardening. He grew many crops and raised livestock and grain crops. He drove semi-truck for many years for Builder’s Supply Co., and had his own general contracting business, Boehm Builders. He was active in his Catholic faith and attended Mass weekly at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan. Ernie, dear father and friend, will be missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him.

Ernie will be deeply missed by his family, Joan Boehm; his three sons, Ernest (Wei) Boehm Jr., Hanover Park, IL, Keith (Gretchen) Boehm, Bismarck, Matt (Kaycee) Boehm, Mandan; seven daughters, Becky (Greg) Maki, Solway, MN, Cindy (Damien) Seese, Bismarck, Paula (Jeremy) Taylor, Dundee, OR, Sarah Boehm, Eugene, OR, Amanda (Bjorn) Sorgaard, Fosston, MN, Emilee (Brian) Anderson, Trail, MN, and Melissa (Jeremy) Hansen, Wahpeton, ND; nineteen grandchildren, Jin Bao, Audrey, Ryan, Ashley, Kaleb, Lucas, Katrina, Dexter, Sophia, Joey, Maddie, Avery, Stella, Jasper, Iver, Evelynn, Eleanore, Erwyn, and Mavis; siblings, Geraldine (David) Kath, Elko, NV, Patricia Stein, Bismarck, Susan (Robert) Bauer, Bismarck; brother-in-law, Kasper Kraft, New Salem, ND; sister-in-law, Sheila Boehm, Mandan; and many other family and friends.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Matt and Emma, his brothers, Matt Jr. and William, and sister, Donna.
