Elmer "Richard" Beckerdite, 94, Bismarck formerly of Mandan passed away October 24, 2016 at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:30 am at St Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Inurnment will be held at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm with Military Honors provided by the Flasher VFW and American Legion Post #69.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 5:30-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Richard was born on October 21, 1922 to Elmer and June (Lee) Beckerdite in Mill Creek, AR. Richard was a machinist for many years and worked at Tally Manufacturing and then he went to work for Aerojet General. It was while he was working for 3M Manufacturing that he had a massive heart attack and was disabled. In 1967 he married Leona Schafer Haag and her 5 children in Camarillo, CA. Richard then stayed home and raised the children. Richard enjoyed gardening, bowling and woodworking. He never missed a chance to be with the grandbabies and made sure he introduced them to the fine art of fishing.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Leona Beckerdite and 4 stepchildren, Debbie Kuntz, Lincoln, ND, Pam (Gary) Hauff, Orange Park, FL, Cindy (Bobby) Danford, Frenchtown, MT, Shelly (Tom) Gartner, St Anthony, ND and 1 daughter-in-law Jackie Haag, Mandan ND; 8 grandchildren, Don (Ann) Haag, Bismarck, ND, Chris Haag, Stanton, ND, Bryan (Ashley) Miller, Texas, David Kuntz, Bismarck, ND, Casey Wright, French Town, MT, Chelsey Richter, Bismarck, ND, Tonya (James) Haag, Bismarck, ND and Mason Haag, Mandan, ND and 11 great- grandchildren.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; 2 children, Bill and Carol Lynn; 1 stepson, Bill Haag and son-in-law, Valentine Kuntz; 2 brother and sisters-in-law, Jack and Arlene and Bill and Phyllis.
