Ellen Friesz, 79, Mandan, died October 15, 2013 at her residence after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue at Weigel Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Ellen Gangl was born November 21, 1933 to George and Eleanor (Wetsch) Gangl in St. Anthony where she was raised and educated. On June 23, 1957 Ellen married Martin Friesz at St. Anthony. In 1957 they moved to Mandan where they resided until their deaths. After working various jobs and graduating from Capital Commercial College Ellen worked for 26 years with Capital City Restaurant Supply, until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteer work at St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Diocese of Bismarck. Ellen had a special knack with needlework, mainly crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She liked to play a good game of pinochle or Yahtzee as well as trying her luck at the casinos. An excellent cook and baker, Ellen often shared her homemade treats with others.
Ellen will be missed by her sisters, Marge Stegmiller, Mandan; Leona Gartner, St. Anthony; and Donna (Pete) Kuhn, Bismarck; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Martin; her parents; one brother, Terence; brothers-in-law, Franklin Gartner and Joseph Stegmiller; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
