Ella Kitzman, 66, Mandan, died January 13, 2016 at her residence in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Nick Schneider as celebrant. Inurnment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 18, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Ella was born on November 11, 1949 to Adam and Angeline (Schweitzer) Berger in Mandan, ND. She was raised and educated in the Mandan area, graduating from Mandan High School. Ella married Joseph Emter on September 13, 1968 in Mandan. She later married Duane Kitzman on June 20, 1980 in McLaughlin, SD. Duane died September 30, 2013.
Ella was a CNA and worked at Mandan Villa for many years. She was also a Vocational Coordinator in SD and worked as a child care provider for Littlest Angel Daycare in ND. She volunteered at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Christ the King Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church working on children’s programs. She was very artistic and once was offered a grant to draw pictures for children’s books. She could draw anything, and used this talent in many craft projects. Ella also had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh and smile. Her family was the center of her life and she would spend as much time with them as she could. Her passion was her grandchildren, she enjoyed being around them and loved to do crafts and bake with them. She also loved animals and had many pets through the years of which she devoted such tender and loving care to. She will be forever loved and missed by all of those that knew her.
Ella will be deeply missed by her daughters, Tanya (Bryan) Sleight, Mandan, ND and Angie (Ron) Morrell, Mandan, ND; sons, Joe (Jill) Emter, Mandan, ND, Toby (Shari) Kitzman, Mandan, ND and John (Nikki) Kitzman, Beulah, ND; former husband, Joseph Emter, Mandan, ND; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Hailey, Jadehya, Alyssa, Tyler, Bryona, Corryn, Ella, Joey, Anna, Elsie; 1 great-grandchild, Madisyn; mother, Angeline Berger, Mandan, ND; sister, Sue Helm, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Lenus (Alice) Berger, Wayne Berger, Bill (Mickie) Berger, Terry Berger all of Mandan, ND and Adam (Tammy) Berger, Bismarck, ND; Godmother, Bernice Orgaard, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ella was preceded in death by her father, Adam Berger; husband, Duane; grandparents, Jacob and Theresa Schweitzer and George and Marguerite Berger; and nieces, Marguerite and Bobbie Jo Berger.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to The Hope Lodge, 2500 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414 in Ella’s name.
