Edward Goldade Sr. 87 died in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on April 29, 2014.
Requiem High Mass will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 am at St, Michael’s Catholic Church in Mandan with Father Michael Goldade as Celebrant. Burial will take place at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary/parish vigil at 7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will continue two hours before the service at the church on Monday.
He was born in Selz, North Dakota on March 30, 1927 to Frank and Catherine (Wentz) Goldade.
He served in the United States Navy as a gunner after World War II. After his military service ended, he married Bertha Roerick on October 27, 1952. He worked on the construction of the Garrison Dam after which he moved to Bismarck where he worked to build the Heskett power plant north of Mandan. In 1954 he started employment with MDU at the Heskett power plant. He then moved to Mandan, where he lived for the next 36 years until he retired in 1990. After his retirement he dedicated his life to the loving care of his bride of 61 years.
He was a dedicated and devout Roman Catholic with a great devotion to Our Heavenly Mother Mary and thru her, to God. He was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Blue Army of Our Lady. Edward and Bertha instilled this Catholic Faith in their children by their example of fidelity to the traditional teachings of Catholic Church. Saying his daily Rosary was a joy and a daily duty that was never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Bertha and his twelve children; Edward (Janie) Goldade Jr., Dickinson, ND, Carol (Paul) Gieser, Mandan, ND, Michael (Marge) Goldade, St. Mary’s, KS, JoAnne Campbell, St. Mary’s, KS, Kenneth (JoAnn) Goldade, Mandan, ND, Thomas (Collette) Goldade, St. Mary’s, KS, James (Sandy) Goldade, Eyota, MN, Theresa (Vincent) Skierka, Pompey’s Piller, MT, Barbara (Kenneth) Simek, Dickinson, ND, Sister Maria Magdalena F.M., White Bear Lake, MN, Robert (Jessica) Goldade, Long Prairie, MN, Joseph (Brenda) Goldade, St. Mary’s, KS, his 99 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren. His sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Boyd Wilton, Federal Way, WA; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Violet Goldade, Tacoma, WA, Marvin and Sharon Goldade, Kent, WA, his sister-in-law Angie Goldade, Tacoma, WA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Goldade; his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Arnold Asheim; brother Arthur Goldade, brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Marlene Goldade; two great- grandsons, Gregory Gieser and Mark Jacobs; one niece, Kathy Payne and one nephew David Goldade.
