Duane Graner

Duane G. Graner, 55, Mandan, died September 22, 2015 at his residence in Mandan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND with Deacon Doug Helbing. Inurnment will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Duane was born on October 28, 1959 to Lawrence J. and Darlene (Schmidt) Graner in Bismarck, ND. The family moved to Napoleon in 1961 when they purchased the Super Valu grocery store. Duane was raised and educated in Napoleon graduated from Napoleon High School in 1977. He worked at his parents grocery store during the school year and during the summers he would work on the Schmidt farm south of Mandan. After High School he went to work for the Soo Line/CP Railroad.

He had many interests including his cars and pickups. Duane loved to drive and check out Schmidt and Graner Bottoms on a daily basis until he was no longer able to drive. He liked watching sports on TV, especially NASCAR and was a diehard Vikings fan. On Wednesday evening he would look forward to going to his brother Daryl’s to watch “Big Brother and Survivor” each week with his friends and family.

Duane will be deeply missed by his mother, Darlene, Mandan, ND; sister, Carol (L. E. Whitey) Buchholz, Napoleon, ND and brother Daryl Graner, Mandan, ND; nephew, Paul Buchholz, Fargo, ND; nieces, Alisha Graner and Rebecca Buchholz both of Mandan, ND and special great-niece, Adeline who will miss her “Uncle”.


Duane was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence; sister, Brenda Graner; grandparents, Lawrence and Freda (Laubner) Graner and George E. and Agnes (Smith) Schmidt; 5 uncles and 2 aunts.
