Dorothea F. Rhone-Ulrich, 81, died peacefully March 6, 2016.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bismarck, ND with Msgr. Gene Lindemann as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Dorothea was born on February 6, 1935 in Elgin ND to Carl and Lena (Duletski) Haff. At age 9 the family moved to Solen ND. She attended school in Elgin and Solen. She married James Rhone on March 6, 1958 in Mandan. Together they raised four children while living in Cannon Ball, Kennel, Mandan and Fargo. After retirement James died unexpectedly in 1991. Dorothea remained in Fargo for a few years before marrying Frank Ulrich in 1995. Dorothea and Frank spent time on the farm in Elgin and at their home in Bismarck. Frank passed away in 2007.
Dorothea was a care giver in Bismarck, Mandan, and Fargo for over 25 years. She enjoyed her work, as well as spending time with others, and letting them enjoy her cooking.
Dorothea was an accomplished cook and very much enjoyed hosting family and friends for meals that included recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters.
Dorothea is survived by her children, Jeanette Kurtz, Jackie (Dave) McBeain, Janell (Dan) McBeain, and James (Patty) Rhone; 15 grandchildren, Joshua (Kelly) McBeain, Brandon (Tara) McBeain, Mitchell McBeain, Angela McBeain, Zachary McBeain, Michael McBeain, Nicholas McBeain, Benjamin McBeain, Elizabeth McBeain, Abigail McBeain, Ashley Colby, Tyler Colby, James Rhone, Hunter Rhone, and Alex Rhone; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ahria Colby and Amyia Colby; 2 brothers, Ken (Cindy) Haff, and Ted (Donna) Haff; 1 sister, Betty Ternes; and 3 sister-in-laws, Willine Haff, Doris Haff, Gardine Haff. Additional surviving family members include the brothers of her late husband Frank; Jim (Leona), Claude (Karen), Rober, Roger, and sisters Florence (George), and Bernice (Oliver). Additionally, Dorothea leaves behind good friends Sheryl Fines, Mary Ann Mousel, Brian Kurtz, Dorothy always thought of him as a son-in-law, and many others.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her first husband James Rhone and her husband Frank Ulrich, her parents Carl and Lena, brothers Pete, John, Carl, Michael, Tony (Karen), Henry (Linda), and her sister Mary Ann, and close friend Eilleen Siewert.
