Donald Eckholm 81, Mandan, ND died November 18, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center.
A service will be held next spring to celebrate Donny’s life.
Donald "Donny" was born October 8, 1943 to Sulo & Magdalena "Maggie" Eckholm in Bismarck ND. He was raised in Wing and Mandan. He married Sandra "Sandy" Weisser April 1963 and they made their home in Mandan. From that marriage they had 2 children Dale & Amy. He was an over the road trucker for 50 years, the last 25 of his career for Jim Ressler Trucking. He was known as the “Underdog” in the cb/trucker world. He enjoyed hanging out with his wife and their friends wintering in Arizona and skipping the cold ND winters. In his early years he enjoyed dirt track racing and raced sprint cars & hobby stocks, tinkering on vehicles, teaching his daughter and grandson to hunt when they were old enough, camping and fishing. He and Sandy had their last camping summer in 2023. Upon returning from Arizona in the spring of 2024 they sold the camper & pontoon. His greatest joys in life were his wife, kids, grandkids and great grandkids and all the friends he has made along the way.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Sandy of 62 years; son, Dale (Chris) Indian Land SC; daughter, Amy (Jason) Bismarck; grandson, TJ (Jeni) of Mandan and their children: Easton, Madelyn, Xander, Kinsey, Aaron & Lainey; granddaughter, Jill (Riley) of Garrison; granddaughter, Sara and her children: Damien & Ariyana of Charotte NC; brother, Eugene (Arky); brother in-law, Raymond Hoff; sisters in-law: Jeanette Weisser and Nona Weisser as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Sulo and Maggie Eckholm; sister, Marian Hoff; niece, Michelle Suma; in-laws: John & Hilda Weisser; sister in-law, Janet Eckholm; bothers in-law: Marvin and Delmar Weisser, Lloyd & his wife Darlene Weisser.
