Dolores Schmitt

Dolores “Dolly” M. Schmitt, 88, Mandan, passed away May 28, 2016 at Sanford in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at St. Joe’s Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Dolores was born in Mandan, ND on July 19, 1927 to Edward F. Schmitt and Hilda M. (Pajala) Schmitt. She attended St. Joseph Elementary and graduated from Mandan High School. In 1945, she enrolled in a 5 year BSN nursing course at St. Scholastica’s College in Duluth, MN, graduating in June 1950 with a BSN and education degree. She had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to her faith.
Dolores was active in Girl Scouts, Catholic Daughters, Latin Club, and the head honcho for 2 years at Alpha Tau Delta honorary nursing sorority. Dolores worked in the Mandan hospital for 4 years then went into anesthesia. She worked at Trinity in Minot for 26 ½ years, retiring at the end of 1992. After retirement Dolores continued to enjoy her home, lake life, and fishing. This special woman will be dearly missed and remembered for her loving devotion to family and friends.
Dolores will be deeply missed by niece-in-law and husband, Sherry and Mike Mattfield, Minneapolis, MN; great nephew, Nick Schmitt; cousins and friends, and her cat, Sammee.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Norman and Harlan; sister, Carole “Susie” (Arnie) Buzick.
Memorials go to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church trust fund or Good Samaritan Society.
