DeLoyd John Baer, 86, Mandan, passed away June 22, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Marvin Klemmer as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
DeLoyd John Baer was born on March 22, 1930 to John H. Baer and Amelia (Hochstetter) Baer in Faith, SD. He moved to Mandan in 1943 and worked with his Dad at Kist’s Grocery Store, leaving for the Army in 1950. He married Irene (Ziniel) Baer on December 4, 1951. They had 4 children, Debra, Sandra, John and William. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and worked for 44 years in the sheet metal and heating trade, working for five different companies. In October 1970 he received the “Outstanding Craftsman Award” from the Architects’ Association of the State of North Dakota. He retired in January of 1992. DeLoyd was also a member of the American Legion for 56 years.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He couldn’t wait to see their smiling faces come into his home on Main Street Mandan. He loved to garden, fish, have the bunch there for the 4th of July parade, listen to polka tapes, watch polka shows on TV and do woodworking projects. He made clocks, picture frames, chests whatever his kids asked him to make, he made it. He was also an avid self-taught painter, spending countless hours in his basement capturing images on canvas. He will be deeply missed by many, because he left an impression on everyone he encountered in life.
DeLoyd will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene; daughter, Sandra (Dan) Johnson, Bismarck, ND; sons, John Baer, Bismarck, ND and William (Jonda) Baer, Mandan, ND; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Jason) Asbridge, Mona, UT, Brad (Megan) Suchy, Mandan, ND, Leslie Pearcy, Bismarck, ND, Mark (Laura) Suchy, Mandan, ND, Brock and McKenna Baer, Mandan, ND and Erica Johnson, Bismarck along with 12 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Ivy, Sadie and Isabel Asbridge, Ethan, Tyler and Jacob Suchy, Adelyn and Samuel Pearcy, Hunter, Mia and Jocelyn Suchy; son-in-law, Keith Suchy, Mandan, ND; sister, Margie Eidemiller, Lynwood, WA and sister-in-law, Guyla Sturgeon, Rapid City, SD.
“Johnny” was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Suchy; brother, Floyd James “Jim” Baer; infant sister, Loretta and brother-in-law, Herb.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be sent to Mandan Golden Ages Services or North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
