Darvin "Darv" Gratz, 57, Mandan, passed away May 10, 2017 of an accidental drowning while on a fishing trip on the Missouri River.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 5, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Darvin was born on February 27, 1960 the son of David and Eileen (Schmidt) Gratz. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School and Bismarck State College with a degree in Process Plant Technology. After graduation began his employment in Aberdeen, SD then moved to Minot and worked at ADM Processing Plant in Velva for 11 years then decided to move to Fargo where he worked with his younger brother at Case New Holland for 10 years. Most recently Darvin was working at the Tesoro Refinery in Dickinson. Darvin split his time between Dickinson and Mandan, his favorite pastime was fishing.
Darvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Darv enjoyed bowling and spending time with his nieces and nephews taking them fishing, giving them boat rides and camping with family.
Darvin will be deeply missed by his parents, David and Eileen, Mandan, ND; two brothers, Steve (Jane) and Darren (Denise) all of Mandan, ND; three sisters, Reyne (Dave) Helfrich, Laurie (Tom) Pfliger and Pattie Helfrich, all of Mandan; nieces and nephews, Tyler, Brittney, Paysen, Sutten, Travis, Lacy and Tara Helfrich, Elisha (Fiancée, Zack Olson) and Emily (Maliyah) Gratz, Jared Pfliger, Washington, DC, Jaden, Justin and Jennifer Pfliger, Mandan, ND, Kylee (Derrek) and Taten Heins, New Salem, ND, Skylar Helfrich, Mandan, ND, Laken, Kenley and Brityn Gratz, Mandan, ND along with numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Darvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Steve and Rose Gratz and George and Rose Schmidt.
