Daniel Mark Olienyk

Daniel (Dan) Olienyk entered his eternal life on September 21, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 27 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan with Rev. Dr. Leanne Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at 2:15 CDT at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Fairfield, ND. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 26 from 4-6 PM with a Prayer Service at 6 PM at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.

Born to Jim and Nellie (Haluzak) Olienyk on January 1, 1953, in Dickinson, ND along with twin sister Debbie. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Belfield, attended a one room school house until he went to Belfield High school, then graduated from Dickinson State College

Dan taught math in Halliday, Reeder and New Salem. Moving to New Salem in the fall of 1994, he was a coach, referee and sports enthusiast his entire life. He was an active member of the Holstein Booster Club and Red Trail Links golf club.

Dan enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants. He also enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens, and shared the fruits of his labors with friends and relatives.

He was an avid Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, NDSU Bison and New Salem Holstein fan. He coached basketball from 5th grade to junior varsity for both boys and girls in New Salem. He coached girls basketball in three state tournaments and had state champions in track and field events.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Sprynczynatyk of Bismarck, and brother James Olienyk of Barling, AR and infant sister Beverly Olienyk.

Surviving family members are brother in law, Bill Sprynczynatyk Bismarck, sister in law, Edna Olienyk, Barling, AR, brother Paul (Charlotte) Olienyk, Ft. Smith, AR, sister Ruth (Larry) Radebaugh Belfield and twin sister Debbie Gross Bismarck. His nephews, nieces, cousins and friends will miss him.
