Daniel Eckroth, 82, Mandan, died May 15, 2014 at his residence in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 19, 2014 from 3:00-9:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:15 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Dan was born on August 12, 1931 to Andrew and Anna (Hoffman) Eckroth in Morton County, ND. He was born and raised on the family farm. He married Irene Leingang on October 24, 1950 in St. Anthony, ND. Irene passed away on December 8, 2010. Dan was a hard worker and was a “Jack of all Trades”. He was a farmer/rancher, taxi driver, and worked 20 years for North Dakota Concrete. But the job he enjoyed the most was being the custodian for St. Joseph Catholic Church which he did for 19 years.
His family was the most important thing in his life and he loved to spend time with them. He enjoyed his “Hardees” coffee group and would go every day. Dan was a 4th Degree Knight and was very active in the Knights of Columbus and was on the Board of Directors. Dan was very proud of going back to school and getting his GED from Mandan High School. He also was a lover of chocolate, any kind of chocolate. One of Dan’s favorite things was when he and Irene would travel to see family.
Daniel will be deeply missed by daughters, Virginia (David) Austin, Mandan, and Lydia (Larry) Friesz, St. Cloud, MN; sons, Rick (Kathy) Eckroth, Ronald (Annette) Eckroth, both of Mandan, and Daniel, Jr. (Jean) Eckroth, Farmington, MN; grandchildren, Jared (Brandy) Eckroth, Carrie (Ken) Michlitsch, Tonya Eckroth (Nathaniel Bishop), Jesse (Trisha) Eckroth, Jeremy (Kimberly) Eckroth, Jamison (Kristin) Eckroth, Scott (Amy) Austin, Steven (Katherine) Austin, Adrian (Tiffany) Austin, Jason (Dione) Friesz, Joshua (Stephanie) Friesz, and Dana Eckroth; great grandchildren, Samantha Irene, Landyn, Hanna, Zachary, Alexis, Ashton, Gus, Abbygayle, McKenzie, Colton, Caden, Alyssa, Emily, Ashley Irene, Aubrey, Keira, Victoria, Brenna, Dylan, Haley, Kaden, Jazmyn, Nevin, Mitchell, Benjamin and Sabrina; sisters, Frances Bender, Bismarck, Clementine (Mark) Stein, Bismarck and Lucille Bosch, Bismarck; brothers, Paul Eckroth, Las Vegas, NV and Jack (Louise) Eckroth, Mandan.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Irene; his parents, great-grandson, Nathaniel Daniel; sisters, Betty Bender, Barbara Bender, Bertha Dieter, Katherine Helfrich and; brothers, Joe, Phillip and Tim Eckroth.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Capital Campaign Fund.
