Clara Miller, 80, Mandan, died May 23, 2014 at her residence in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Msgr. Chad Gion as Celebrant. Burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 1:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 6:30 pm and a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Clara was born August 14, 1933 to John G. Stein and Rose (Zander) in Mandan. Clara was raised and educated in Judson, ND. She married Jack Miller on June 26, 1951 at St Vincent Church, Rural Morton County, which where she was an active member. Together they raised seven children and farmed 10 miles west of Mandan until 1969 when they moved to Mandan.
Clara had several jobs after moving to Mandan. She made a career as a Resident Counselor at the ND Youth Correctional Center in Mandan. She worked there for 24 years until her retirement. She had created special relationships with many of the children whom she mentored and was known as Mom Miller. After retirement she worked part-time as a Home Health Companion.
Clara enjoyed the holidays with her family and grandchildren. Clara was an amazing German cook and baker. She was known for her German Potato Salad. Her hobbies included ceramics, arts/crafts, artex painting, and creating wedding bouquets and decorations. She was passionate about the flower gardens around her home.
Clara was a beloved member of the Catholic Daughters as faith was very important to her. She was a vibrant wife, mother, and grandmother whose wonderful personality, full of laughter and the joy of life, will be missed by all that loved and knew her.
Clara will be deeply missed by her daughters, Vicki (Dave) Butler, Mandan, Darla (Larry) Schaff, Mandan, Janelle (Joe) Dinneen, Parker, CO, Laurie (Mike) Hermanson, New Salem; sons, Alan, Steam Boat Springs, CO, Dale, Bismarck, Marlin (Nancy), Mandan; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister, Jeanette (Reuben) Straub, Bismarck; brothers, Richard (Helen) Stein, Mandan, and James Stein, San Diego, CA.
Clara was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Jack in 1986; sister, Norleen; brothers, Ervin and Al.
