Chuck Zachmeier

July 23, 1968 — October 1, 2024

Charles “Chuck” Zachmeier, 56, Mandan, passed away October 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous and hard fought 19-year battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Josh Waltz celebrating and Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as homilist. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Parish Vigil and Time of Sharing at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Chuck was born July 23, 1968, in Bismarck, to Louie and Sylvia (Knoll) Zachmeier. Raised along the Missouri River north of Mandan, Chuck enjoyed racing motocross in his teenage years. He worked at his father’s repair and machine shop, Louie’s Repair, where he found his passion for machining and mechanic work. Chuck graduated from Mandan High School in 1987, and went on to graduate from Bemidji Technical College with a degree in automotive machining. He worked as a machinist at Bobcat in the engineering department for 18 years and later at Antelope Valley Station in Beulah for 10 years.

On October 3, 1992, Chuck married the love of his life, Lynn Bauer. They made their home along the Missouri River, just down the road from where Chuck grew up. Here they raised their 3 sons, Chad, Curt, and Brandon, and shared 32 wonderful years together. Chuck enjoyed spending his free time boating and gathering with friends and family along the river. A devoted and hard-working father, Chuck showed his sons that patience is a virtue as well as the value of hard work and instilled in them the unmatched work ethic taught to him by his own father. Chuck channeled that same spirit into his health battle as he leaned on his faith and fought so hard to be around as long as possible to watch his sons grow into the incredible young men they have become.

Blessed to have shared in his life is his wife, Lynn Zachmeier, Mandan; their three sons, Chad Zachmeier, Mandan, Curt Zachmeier, LaCrosse, WI, and Brandon Zachmeier (fiancée, Madilyn Emter), Mandan; his mother, Sylvia Zachmeier, Mandan; sisters, Tracie Reddig, Helena, MT and Cindy (Josh) Carter, Mandan; nephew and nieces, Tanner (Miranda) Reddig, Lexie (Ryan) Cornwall, and Quinn and Sophia Carter; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Ida Bauer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lori (Troy) Kostelecky, Lisa (Blaine) Zachmeier, Jim Jr. (Dee) Bauer, and Tom Bauer (Tonya Auck); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Louie in 2020.
