Charlotte J. “Toots” Bunnell, 77, Mandan, died January 16, 2014 at Sanford Health in Bismarck with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Christopher Kadrmas as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Charlotte Ripplinger was born January 22, 1936 in Mandan to Pete and Margarette (Lauinger) Ripplinger. She married George Bunnell on May 15, 1954 in Mandan. Charlotte had many talents. She worked as a waitress at Vi’s and Ray’s Cafe, in the kitchen at Heartview and as a supervisor in Housekeeping/Laundry at the Mandan Villa.
With a spirit of hospitality, Charlotte’s door was always open for coffee, food and conversation. Whether you were immediate family or extended family, she made sure you were welcomed with sugar kuchen, cut outs, chocolate cake, or her famous spaghetti or pigs in the blanket. Charlotte’s love for the outdoors was evident in camping trips and family hunting and fishing gatherings. Later, a high point was the purchase of a cabin near Parshall, ND where many family gatherings brought much enjoyment. She could be found in her flower garden or canning from the vegetable garden. Toots’ sisters were a very important part of her life, especially their shopping trips together. Family gatherings were a highlight along with travelling to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. Toots was a woman of great strength and a strong faith and will be dearly missed.
Toots will be deeply missed by her daughters, Debbie (John) Wangler, Mandan; Linda (Loren) Dally and Laurie (Mike) Hedstrom, both of Bismarck; sons, Kenny (Deb), Mandan and George, Jr. (Brenda) of Maple Grove, MN; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren with two on the way; sisters, Annette Schumacher and Donna Norton, both of Mandan; brothers, Garry (Kathy) and Larry (Michelle), both of Mandan; Jerry (LaVerne), Fargo; Peter (Kathy), Billings, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, who died in 2012; sons, Patrick, Keith and Scott; brothers, Cap, Bob, Bill, Richard, Ted and an infant sister, Shirley and brother-in-law, Cliff Norton.
