Charles P. Skalsky, 77, Bismarck, died November 28, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Marvin Klemmer as celebrant. Inurnment will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Bismarck AMVETS Post #9.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Charles was born on June 15, 1939 to Wendelin and Helen (Lynch) Skalsky in Hebron, ND. He was raised on the family farm south of Beulah and graduated from Beulah High School in 1957.Charles entered the United States Army in May 1957 and was assigned to the Engineering Department in charge of rigging and movement control. He served until May of 1959. He married Rowene Rausch on November 23, 1959 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church rural Beulah, ND. Charles and Rowene lived in Stanton, ND for many years raising their five children.
Over the years Charles worked as a Boilermaker and General Forman for Morrison Knudsen and Washington groups and other companies, rigging and erecting steel for the construction of power plants. He took pride in the construction projects he was involved in in several states and Canada. Upon retiring, he became a consultant.
Charles' life was filled with family. He enjoyed NASCAR and stock car racing, holiday gatherings, playing cards, talking politics and telling stories, following sporting events of his children and grandchildren along with taking care of his yard. He had many friends and would enjoy getting together and visiting with them.
Charles will be deeply missed by his former spouse, Rowene Skalsky; children, Brenda (George) Owen, Williston, ND, David (Becky) Skalsky, Bismarck, ND, Cheryl (Terry) Weigel, Kintyre, ND, Sandy (Jim) McKay, Bismarck, ND and Rod Skalsky, Beulah, ND; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; special friend, Bette Ziegler, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Jerome, Tucson, AZ and Duane (Cheryl), Tucson, AZ; sister, Virginia (Robert) Rathburn, Clermont, FL; sister-in-law Verla, OR along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel; sisters, Joanne and Elaine; nephew, Mark Skalsky and sister-in-law, Ida Skalsky.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
