Celestine Koch

March 12, 1919 — December 13, 2013

Celestine Koch, 94, Mandan, died December 13, 2013 at Sanford off Collins in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 16, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Celestine was born on March 12, 1919 in Raleigh, ND to Rudolph and Verena (Kopp) Miller. She was raised and educated in Raleigh were she attended a one room school house. She married Isadore Koch on October 14, 1940 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Raleigh, ND. Together they farmed and raised their family in the Shields area until 1972 when they moved to Mandan.

Celestine’s family was central in her life and enjoyed family gatherings especially during the holidays where her talent for cooking German dishes was enjoyed by all. She had large flower and vegetable gardens and tended to them with great love and care and canned the fruits of her labor. She made beautiful embroidered dish towels, loved playing cards and enjoyed coloring with her grandchildren.

Celestine will be deeply missed by daughters, Roberta (Robert) Ressler, Mandan, Dorothy (Vernon) Leingang, St. Anthony, Clara (Harold) Lacher, Richland, Wa, Gloria (Larry) Reichman, Warner Robins Ga.and daughter-in-law, Loretta Koch, Denver, Co; son, Joseph (Mary), Mandan; 21 Granchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; sister, Ida (William) Ternes, New Salem and brother, Raymond Miller, Bismarck.

Celestine was preceded in death by her husband Isadore on October 23, 1999; her parents; son, Raymond; grandson, Chad Steven Leingang; son-in-law, Gerald J. Leingang; sister, Gretchen Miller and brothers, John Miller, Lambert Miller and Peter R. Miller.
