Bertha Yantzer

Bertha C, Yantzer, 94, Bismarck, passed away August 25, 2016 at St. Gabriel’s Community in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am CST on Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Center, ND with Rev. Jerry Kautzman as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Martin’s Cemetery, Center, ND.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Bertha was born on February 1, 1922 to Peter and Celestine (Gress) Denius in Bismarck, ND.
She was raised and educated in Center and graduated from Center High School in 1940. She worked as a clerk at the ASC office, E.H. Johnston and L.A. Klein Store before she married Leo Yantzer on November 27, 1944. She and Leo raised their 7 children in Center, ND and were very active in the community. She was a member of St. Martin’s Altar Society, Good Sam’s Club and Lamplighters Bowling League. It was rare to see Bertha sitting idle, she would always be busy with her flower gardens and vegetable gardens where nothing went to waste. She loved to crochet and she would make afghans for her children and grandchildren as they graduated from high school. Her family was central in her life and she always made sure that the candy dishes were full when they came to visit. Her love and support of her family will always be treasured by her children..

Bertha will be deeply missed by her daughters, Judy (Rod) Olin, Jamestown, ND, Janice (Jim) Benedick, Sarasota, FL, Jackie Yantzer, Bismarck, ND and Joletta (Tim) Morrell, Bismarck, ND; sons, Jerome (Claudette), Killdeer, ND, James (Val Carthright) (Arlene Yantzer), Bismarck, ND and John (Marilyn), Mandan, ND; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and sister, Ann Kocourek, Mandan, ND.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo who died in 2008; sisters, Francis and Eva and brothers, Carl and John.

In Lieu of memorials family requests they be sent to St. Gabriel Community or St. Martins Catholic Church, 302 2nd St. E Center ND.
