Bertha (Roerick) Goldade, 81, died September 16, 2014 at home in Eyota, Minnesota.
Requiem High Mass will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:00 am at St, Michael’s Catholic Church in Mandan with Father Michael Goldade as Celebrant. Burial will take place at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will continue two hours before the service at the church on Saturday.
Bertha was born in Esmond , North Dakota on November 19, 1932 to Michael and Dorothy (Hager) Roerick.
Bertha attended Minot State College and graduated from the teaching program. She taught for three years in a small one–room school house. On October 27, 1953, she married Edward Goldade Sr. She spent the rest of her life raising her 12 children and helping others. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking bread, cooking, sewing, and embroidery. She enjoyed having her grandchildren around her.
She was a dedicated and devout Roman Catholic with a great devotion to Our Heavenly Mother Mary and through her, to God. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Blue Army of Our Lady. Edward and Bertha instilled this Catholic Faith in their children by their example of fidelity to the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church. Saying her daily rosary was a joy and a daily duty that was never forgotten.
She is survived by her 12 children: Edward (Janie) Goldade Jr., Dickinson, Carol (Paul) Gieser, Mandan, Michael (Marge) Goldade, St Mary’s, KS, JoAnne Campbell, St. Mary’s, KS, Kenneth (Joann) Goldade, Mandan, Thomas (Collette) Goldade, St. Mary’s, KS, James (Sandy) Goldade, Eyota, MN, Theresa (Vincent) Skierka, Pompey’s Pillar, MT, Barbara (Kenneth) Simek, Dickinson, ND, Sister Maria Magdalena F.M., White Bear Lake, MN, Robert (Jessica) Goldade, Long Prairie, MN, Joseph (Brenda) Goldade, St. Mary’s, KS.; 99 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Martina Franzen, Mapes, ND, Angeline Beaulieu, Bemidji, MN, Jenny (Lorraine) Vrem, Tolna, ND, Diane (DeWayne) Piker, Springfield, MO,. Her brothers: Eugene (Linda) Roerick, Detroit Lakes, MN, Adam Roerick, Tolna, ND, Ambrose (Sandy) Roerick, Stanwood, WA. along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Goldade Sr., one grandchild, Thomas Goldade, two great-grandchildren, Gregory Gieser and Mark Jacobs. Her parents: Michael and Dorothy Roerick. Her sisters and brothers: Eva Cassidy and her husband Lowell, and Rose Shirley, Matt Roerick and his wife Irene, and Andy Roerick, and two brothers-in-law Paul (Bud) Franzen and Conrad Beaulieu.
