Bertha K Flink, 95, Mandan, passed away February 2, 2017 at Sanford Health Continuing Care Center in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Lunch to follow burial.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 6:30 pm followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm.
Bertha was born on August 28, 1921 to Alfred and Rosa (Schaner) Helbling on a farm southwest of Mandan. She attended country school and St. Anthony Catholic School.
In 1941 she moved to Mandan and was employed at the Mandan Hospital from 1941-1956. Bertha married Mike Flink on May 7, 1946. They made their home in Mandan and raised their 3 children, Louayne, Darlene and Michael. Bertha worked for Mandan Junior High School as a cook from 1971-1981, she then worked three years at a Mandan nursing home, retiring in 1982.
Bertha was a volunteer with RSVP, Golden Age Services, Mandan Senior Center's Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army and Easter Seals. Bertha made many close friends living at Liberty heights for 25 years. She enjoyed fishing on the weekends with her husband, quilting and cooking for her children and grandchildren. Above all, her family and faith were most important to her.
Bertha will be deeply missed by her daughters, Louayne (David) Gertz, Mandan, ND and Darlene (Mark) Gouveia, La Plata, MD and son, Michael Flink, Mandan, ND. Six grandchildren; Marissa Rath, James Gertz, Ryan and Megan Gouveia, Christina and Joey Flink along with four great-grandchildren. Sisters, Monica (Nick) Zueger, Mandan, ND and Gardie Palin, Lolo, MT and Maxie Helbling, Bismarck; brothers, Alfred Helbling, El Cajon, CA and Tom (Janice) Helbling, St. Paul MN.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Rosa; husband, Mike who passed away in 1991; sisters, Genny (John) Wetsch, Mary (John) Bullinger and Maggie (George) Kautzman; brothers, John (Minnie) Helbling, Emil (Rose) Knoll, Joe Knoll,
Pete (Emma) Helbling and Stanley Helbling.
Bertha would like to extend a special thank you to her nieces and nephews who had always been there for her.
