Baseleus “Bud” Volk, 92, Flasher, died May 31, 2014 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am CST on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, ND with Fr. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Burial will be held at the St. Gertrude Cemetery in Raleigh following the Mass.


Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Bud was born in Strasburg, ND on July 21, 1921 to Elias & Agnes (Braun) Volk. He married Anna Marie Ternes on November 12, 1946. Together they farmed in the Raleigh, ND area until they retired and moved to Flasher. Bud enjoyed visiting, playing card with his friends, especially whist. Bud was a kind and generous soul; he always met life head-on with a smile on his face. His religion was very important to him. His appreciative nature was always evident by the many friends Bud had that will miss him very much.

Bud will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Anna; his children, Ruby Slickers, Gainsville, Virginia, Aggie (Ervin) Ruscheinsky, Carson, ND, Mary Stites, Gainsville, Viginia, Seymour (Lawana) Elgin, ND, Gertie (Marvin) Ruscheinsky, Raleigh, ND, Simon (Jan), Spearfish, SD, Isabelle (Dalen) Kroft, Mandan, ND, Michael (Linda), Bismarck, ND, Bennett, Flasher, ND, Dominic (Vicky), Flasher, ND and Monica (Jay) Ruscheinsky, Carson, ND; 28 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Anna Moran, Bismarck, ND, Magdelene Vetter, Hettinger, ND, Amandus Volk, Flasher, ND, Eugene (Clementine) Volk, Bismarck, ND, Sr. Maria OSB, Duluth, MN, Lydia Braun, Mandan, ND, Angeline Braun, Bismarck, ND, Theresa Schriock, Carson, ND, Melchior Volk, Mandan, ND, Evelyn (Ervin) Miller, Fargo, ND, Valentina Bruington, Bismarck, ND, Barbara (Ernest) Sheetz, Glendive, Montana and Adam (Sandy) Volk, Bismarck, ND.

Bud was preceded in death by brothers, Fr. Edwin, Leo and Michael Volk; brothers-in-law, John Vetter, Pius Braun, Adam Braun, Alan Schriock and Gerard Moran and sister-in-law, Elaine Volk.

The family would like to thank the staff and residence at Edgewood in Mandan and Elm Crest Manor in New Salem for the great care and wonderful friendships Bud had at both places.
