Baldwin Ternes, 92, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Friday, November 22 at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck with Fr. Russ Kovash presiding. Burial will follow at 2 PM at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Cemetery in Raleigh, ND. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a Rosary/Vigil Service at 7 PM on Thursday, November 21 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.

Baldwin was born November 6, 1932 to Anselm and Deonella (Braun) Ternes in Shields, ND. He was raised on the family farm in Shields. He went to school in St. Anthony and country school in the Shields area. On November 24, 1953, he married Irene Kopp at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Raleigh. They made their home and raised their 15 children on the family farm until retirement when the moved to Bismarck in April of 2000.

Baldwin was a farmer, rancher and dairy farmer. He enjoyed playing pool, dice and cards. He loved tinkering on small engines. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by his family; daughters: Leonella (Mike) Garr, Rapid City, SD, Henri Heidt, Bismarck, Claudina (Dennis) Ferderer, Bismarck, Debbie (Lelyn) Will, Linton, ND, Mary Ann (Dean) Heidt, Rapid City, SD, Trisha (Dewey) Helbling, Lincoln, ND, Aggie Eastham, Bismarck, Stephanie Ternes, Ramona, SD, Connie (Randy) Friesz, Page, ND and Roxanne Drogen, Valley City, ND; sons: Terry (Lorrie) Ternes, Anna, TX, Robert (Brenda) Ternes, Shields, ND and Scott Ternes, Black Hawk, SD; daughter-in-law, Sandra Ternes, Grand Prairie, TX. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Alvina (John) Buck, Billings, MT, Anisa Begger, Billings, MT, Linda Gustin, TX and Minnie (Ron) Keller; brothers: Larry and Balzer (Joan) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Baldwin was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, parents, Anselm and Deonella, sons, Herbert and Joseph; grandchildren: DJ Ferderer and Jasmyn Knippling; great-granddaughter, Avery Garr, son-in-law, Ray Heidt, sister, Claudina Ternes; brothers: Ambrose, Bill, Lenus, Ray, Alois and Bert as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law.
