Anton “Tony” Klein, 82, of Mandan, was brought home to rest by Jesus on Monday, January 04, 2021.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church, McClusky, ND with Rev. Tom Graner as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church with a time of sharing following. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Tony was born by a midwife in Strasburg, ND on November 6, 1938. He was the baby of eight children to John and Theresa (Fischer) Klein. He married Julie Bachmeier at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Selfridge, ND on October 12, 1957.
Tony attended college at Bismarck Junior College. He began teaching in Leith, ND. In 1959, Tony taught school at St. Gertrudes, Raleigh, ND where he was the first coach of the high school. Tony finished college in 1963 by returning to summer school in Dickinson State College and received his Administrators Certificate from the University of North Dakota (GO SIOUX) shortly thereafter. Tony remained in the education field for 38 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator; including thirteen years as principal/teacher in McClusky, ND (1967-1980). He also spent fifteen years in his last position as Sheridan County Superintendent of Schools. In conjunction with his teaching career, Tony and Julie had a rural mail route.
Tony served as president of the ND Star Route Mail Contractors for 13 years. Tony was president of the McClusky Jaycee's and the director of the McClusky Parkview Housing Board. Tony served as the director of the American Lung Association for several years.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his children, Patrick (LaRissa), Bismarck, Antoinette, Denver, CO, Tracy (Joni), Mandan, DelRae (Todd), Bismarck, Kerri (Sheldon), Williston; grandchildren, Travis (Sara), Chelsea, Erik, Aubrie (Tyler), Spencer, Taylor (Tristan), Tannen (Jess), Brant (Lynly), McKenzie, Elijah, Stephanie (Tristan), Shannarae (Gene); his 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Peggy; and many nieces and nephews.
Tony is preceded in death by his son, Shane; his parents, John and Theresa Klein; his brothers, Adam, Joe and Andy; his sisters, Frances, Maggie and Katie.
