Amandus Volk, 89, Mandan, died March 21, 2016 at Edgewood Vista in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, ND with Rev. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery, Raleigh, ND.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Amandus was born on September 13, 1926 to Elias and Agnes (Braun) Volk in Raleigh, ND. He was raised and educated in the Raleigh, ND area. He married Alice Ternes, to this union 5 sons were born. Amandus farmed in the Shields area before going to work for Morton County as a heavy equipment operator. In 1960 he moved to the West Coast where he worked for the telephone company until he moved back to Flasher, ND in the mid 1970’s. Amandus continued to live and work in the Flasher area until this past year when he moved to Mandan.
Amandus had an amazing sense of humor which drew people to him. He enjoyed life to its fullest. He liked to drive around the country side enjoying North Dakota’s natural beauty. He loved to play cards, shoot pool and garden. His family and friends were always important to him and he loved spending time with all of them.
Amandus will be deeply missed by his sons, Charles (Linda) Volk, Spokane, WA, Willie (special friend, Sheila Cleveland) Kuntz, Bismarck, ND, Gordon (Kara) Kuntz, Hays, KS and Ron (Mary) Kuntz, Anoka, MN; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Anna Moran, Bismarck, ND, Maggie Vetter, Hettinger, ND, Sister Maria Volk, OSB, Duluth, MN, Lydia Braun, Mandan, ND, Angeline Braun, Bismarck, ND, Evelyn (Ervin) Miller, Fargo, ND, Valentina Bruington, Bismarck, ND, Theresa Schriock, Carson, ND and Barbara Scheetz, Glendive, MT; brothers, Eugene (Clem) Volk, Bismarck, ND, Adam (Sandy) Volk, Bismarck, ND and Melchior Volk, Mandan, ND; sister-in-law, Ann Volk, New Salem, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Amandus was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Katherine Winter; son Darold Kuntz; brothers, Leo, Baselius, Rev. Edwin Volk and an infant brother, Michael; brothers-in-law, Ernest Scheetz, Allen Schriock, Adam Braun, Pius Braun, Gerald Moran, John Vetter and sister-in-law, Elaine Volk.
