Alvin A. Ternes, 78, of Mandan, passed away April 9, 2023, at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, Aril 14, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Joshua Waltz as celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Alvin Anthony Ternes grew up on the family farm in Grant County. He attended and graduated from Flasher High School in 1962. Alvin worked in construction, as a school bus driver, security guard, business owner, and law enforcement. He retired from law enforcement and security in 2007.
Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing music, and spending time with family and friends.
Alvin will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy; four sons and daughters-in-law: Tony and Jana Ternes, Nolan and Lori Ternes, Terry and Sheila Ternes, and Glen and Michelle Ternes; two step-daughters and son-in-law: Elicia (Lisa) and Alan Jacobson and Marie Dahl; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Bill Blotsky and Esther and Tony Dietz; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Pius and Helen Ternes, Hugo and Julie Ternes, and Jim Ternes; brothers-in-law, Herman and Laura Porter and Gary Porter; and many nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Anna Ternes; a great-granddaughter; two brothers; and one sister-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, Alvin, wishes to have donations made to St. Joseph Catholic School in Mandan, ND.
