Albert (Al) was born November 8, 1927 in Morton County to George and Margaret (Gerving) Schoonover. He was educated in one room country schools. In 1956 he married Lorraine Schatz. Lorraine died in 1972. In 1975 he married Fran Geiger.
Al joined the Army Air Corps in 1976. After he finished he returned to Fort Rice and worked with his father George in trucking. Al and his brother Glen formed Schoonover Brothers Construction and worked together in many road and dam projects throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana. In 1984 he started Onyx Construction.
Al was very interested in making things run and work smoothly at the gravel pits. If a piece of equipment could be improved or changed to increase production it would immediately get in the shop of redesign.
Al shared his vast store of knowledge with his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We will all be eternally grateful to him for all he taught us and gave to us. He was the best.
Al is survived by his wife Fran, Chandler, AZ; children, Gordon (Rhonda), Kevin (Sonia), Jason (Laurie), and daughter-in-law, Julie; grandchildren, Derek (Tisha), Ben (Ashley), Cory (Kristi), Nathan (Beth), Sarah (Sam), Cora, Trevor and Sam; great-grandchildren, Lilli, Dallas, Kenadee, Witten, Wyatt and Morgan; sisters, Arlene Capelle and Jenny Metzner and brother, Glen.
