Albert G. Kovash

Albert G. Kovash, 86, of Mandan passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at a Bismarck hospital with family by his side. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM (CST)., Monday, September 23, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 505 10t Ave NW, Mandan. Interment will follow in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM, Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary/prayer service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Albert was born on September 7, 1938 to Louis and Albina (Pavlicek) Kovash in Dunn County, North Dakota. He attended elementary school in New Hradec and graduated from Dickinson High School. He married Joan Miller November 4, 1961 in St. Vincent Church at Crowne Butte. The couple returned to Albert’s family farm for a few years until they moved west of Mandan to Joan’s parents’ farm and established their own farming and ranching operation. In addition to farming, Al was a sales representative for President Homes as well as developed and owned two area subdivisions. In 1995 Al and Joan moved to Mandan where he has resided since. 

Albert enjoyed playing pinochle at Christ the King Church where he and Joan hosted many card parties. He also was a good polka dancer, Al and Joan even won several Polka competitions. Many fun memories were made traveling to area casinos as well as the occasional trip to Las Vegas. It wasn’t uncommon to find Al in the kitchen fixing up a meal, snack, or a pot of his award-winning soup.

Al will be remembered for his love of birthdays or just an opportunity to gather and have a celebration.

He will be missed by his wife of almost 63 years; children: Ken (Deb) Kovash and Faye (JC) Castro; grandchildren: Lance, Rachel (Paul), Tanner and Mckenna; great-grandchildren: Briar, Harrison, Bennett and Soren as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Dorothy, Margaret, Albina, Alice, Emma, Johnny, Louie, Bill, as well as his parents-in-law: Steve and Veronica Miller and Betty Miller.
