Adam was the oldest of 7 children born to Ralph and Margaret (Mildenburger) Storick on May 4, 1919 in the small community of Timmer, ND. Adam attended school in Timmer where he completed school through 6th grade. Adam continued to help on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942.
One day prior to shipping out to begin his service to the United States, Adam married the love of his life, Bernice Roerich (the daughter of Pius and Anna (Mosset) Roerich. They were married November 1, 1942 in Muskogee, OK. The day after they were married, Bernice returned to Bismarck and Adam shipped out with the 188th Field Artillery for Normandy Beach. Adam proudly served his country in World War II as a tank driver, a job which resulted in him driving the lead tank on to Normandy Beach. Adam served in the U.S. Field Artillery in Normandy until the end of WWII, earning the rank of TF Corporal. Adam was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945.
Upon discharge, Adam returned to the love of his life, Bernice, and they made their home in the Bismarck-Mandan area, first living in the basement of his grandmother’s home and then moving into their own home where they lived and raised their children and where Adam remained after his wife’s death and continued living there with his youngest son and his family.
Adam worked at numerous auto mechanic garages in the Bismarck-Mandan area for 38 years including Ward Motors and retiring from Iten Pontiac. Also during this time Adam, also worked at the Howard Thompson Ranch as a ranch hand. Adam seldom took a vacation but on the rare times he did take time off he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two boys.
Adam was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on the VFW’s honor guard and assisted in many veteran funerals with the 21 gun salute.
He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith in a church in the Timmer area. He was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan, ND.
Adam was a loving brother, father, grandfather or papa as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family remembers spending many special family celebrations and holidays with him. Adam was a friend to all he met and was a very caring and compassionate man.
Adam will be deeply missed by his children, Robert “Bob” (Irene), Arizona City, AZ, Charlotte “Char” (Ron Szudera), Bismarck, Virginia “Chip” Bahm, Ft Yates, ND and Wayne (Nancy) Storick, Mandan, ND; son-in-law, Lee Bahm, Menoken, ND; adopted daughter-in-law, Fay, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Rodney, Coreen, Glen, Gina, Amanda, Austin, Coltin, Jeff and Jenny; great-grandchildren, Blain, Brandon, Kamryn, Michael Jr., Justin, Ryan, Matthew, Casey, Emma, Danika, Megan, Cody, Derek, Hunter, Tanner, Tatum, DeShae, Kayde and his “special-girls”, nieces, Jackie and Norleen along with many other nieces and nephews.
Adam was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bernice, who died August 24, 1993 in a Minneapolis, Minnesota hospital; his daughter, Mary Lou and daughter-in-law, Nancy; his parents, Ralph and Margaret; his brothers, Dick and Bill; his sisters, Eva, Katie, Barbara and Francis and his grandson, Michael Sr.
After many long days or when he grew tired of playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Adam often came into the house and would sink into a chair with a heavy sigh and say to them “Hells bell, coconut shells, I’m tired.” So we say now to you Papa, Dad, Uncle Adam and our dear friend, after 95 wonderful and long years,
“Hells bells, coconut shells, Rest in Peace.”
