Helen Ann Thunder Hawk, “Cetan Wakiya-Win”, age 86 of Fort Yates, ND, passed away Nov. 25, 2021 at the Fort Yates IHS Hospital.
A rosary and parish vigil will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 2nd at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fort Yates.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, Dec, 3rd at St. Peter Catholic Church with Monsignor Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Helen was born November 30, 1934 in Fort Yates, ND to Adam & Sophie (Tiokasin) Kuntz. She was raised and educated in Fort Yates and baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church. Helen worked at IHS Hospital in Fort Yates for 40 years. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved going to the casino with Clayton and Jeanette (she would often say, “Give me 15 minutes to get ready”.) She also enjoyed playing slots on her pink Ipad, shopping, and eating at her favorite restaurants. Helen loved the holidays, especially all the family gatherings at her home. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church.
Helen is survived by her children, Kay (Phil) St. John, Ernest (Cissy) Thunder Hawk, Jeanette (James) Condon, and Maria (Clayton) Hagel; two sisters, Loretta Toledo of New Mexico, & Josie (Jimmy) Green of Louisiana; one brother, Billy (Renissa) Kuntz; auntie Lena Rose Tiakosin; her precious grandchildren, Brian (Michele), Jeremy, K.C. (Dorothy), Dusty, Brandan (Shani), Kyle (Ellana), Gracey (Jay), Weston, & Catera; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sophie, Jett, Blane, Bryson, Tecori, Aidan, Phierce, Bixxan, Liam, Clayunna, Cullen, Kaden, Harley, Fallon, Kiyela, Skyla, Jaxon, Wowokiya, Nolan, Maurice, Opal, & Zavy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Joseph Ernest Thunder Hawk), sister (Hazel Halsey), three brothers (Adam, Thomas, & Moses Kuntz), and grandsons (Clay Hagel, Stetson Hagel, & Ernest Dillion Thunder Hawk).
